SMITH COUNTY — One person died in a motorcycle accident just after 5 p.m. Friday on U.S. 36 near U.S. 281.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by 70-year-old Mark Hollenbeck of Parker, Nebraska, collided with a trailer towed by a 2014 Chevy Silverado, driven by 73-year-old Dale Herrington of Holdrege, Nebraska. Herrington had slowed down to turn north into a cemetery when the crash occurred.
Hollenbeck was pronounced dead at the scene and subsequently transported to Simmons Rentschler Mortuary. Herrington and three passengers in the pickup were not injured. Authorities confirmed that Hollenbeck was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
