GRANDIN — A motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in a rear-end collision on Interstate 29 on Monday evening, August 19.
According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m., approximately 4 miles north of Grandin. Jayme Frank, 51, of Fargo, was riding a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a 2006 Hyundai Sonata driven by 18-year-old Steel Erickson of Rosholt, South Dakota.
Authorities confirmed that Erickson became distracted while driving, leading to the collision. Frank, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his motorcycle and landed in the grass. He was transported to Sanford Hospital via ambulance for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Erickson, who was wearing a seat belt, did not sustain injuries in the incident and was cited for distracted driving. The North Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash.
Interstate 29 was not reported to have significant lane closures following the incident. Grandin is located approximately 30 miles north of Fargo.
