SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a crash at the intersection of Brick and Gumwood Roads on July 16.
According to the St. Joseph County Police, an officer attempted to pull over the motorcycle for erratic driving behavior near Cleveland and Hickory Roads. The motorcyclist reportedly fled, speeding and disregarding traffic signals.
The police officer ended the pursuit, but later saw the same motorcyclist crash into a roundabout curb. The officer immediately rendered first aid at the scene.
The St. Joseph County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating the incident due to its severity and the prior attempted traffic stop. Authorities confirmed no other vehicles were involved.
Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital. Lane closures were in effect during the investigation and cleanup.
