10-Year-Old’s Mother Sues Arizona DCS Following Daughter’s Death

HOLBROOK, AZ – One year after the tragic death of 10-year-old Rebekah Baptiste, her biological mother has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS). The lawsuit claims DCS received 19 prior reports of abuse but failed to open an investigation, categorizing them as “information only.”

According to the lawsuit, most of the reports originated from Rebekah’s teachers and school resource officers. Her father, Richard Baptiste, and his girlfriend, Anicia Woods, are currently facing charges for her murder.

DCS did not provide comments regarding the ongoing litigation but characterized Rebekah’s death as a tragedy. The lawsuit seeks accountability for what the mother alleges was negligence in responding to multiple abuse reports concerning her daughter.

The case is expected to attract attention as it raises concerns about the effectiveness of child protective services in safeguarding vulnerable children. Further details are awaited as the legal proceedings advance.
