Motorcyclist Killed in U.S. 50 Crash in Eureka County

EUREKA COUNTY, NV — A motorcyclist died following a crash on U.S. 50 near mile marker 17 on July 24 at approximately 9:53 a.m.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, 73-year-old Karen Thompson of Snohomish, Washington, was riding a black BMW motorcycle westbound when she lost control. The motorcycle entered a low-side slide before overturning. Thompson was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest on the dirt shoulder of the highway. The motorcycle continued sliding, ultimately stopping in the middle of the roadway.

Thompson suffered life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact the NHP Elko office at (775) 753-1111 or email ncemirt@dps.state.nv.us.
