SANTA CRUZ COUNTY — A San Jose man sustained major injuries in a motorcycle crash on Highway 9, south of Sempervirens Point, at 7:04 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities said the 45-year-old rider was operating a gray 2025 Kawasaki when he lost control, initially crashing into the asphalt roadway. He and the motorcycle continued moving and struck a guardrail, finally stopping on a dirt embankment.
The driver, who was wearing a helmet, was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the cause of the crash, with no indication of drugs or alcohol involvement at this time.
This incident marks the second motorcycle accident in this area within a week; a 30-year-old man died in a crash on Sunday after colliding with a tree.
CHP Capt. Grant Boles urged motorcyclists to adhere to safety precautions, including wearing helmets and remaining vigilant while riding.
