ABBEVILLE COUNTY, S.C. — A 32-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Highway 178 on Saturday night, according to the Abbeville County Coroner’s Office.
The incident occurred around 10:10 p.m. near Rock Springs School Road, authorities said. The victim was identified as Zachary G. McCormick of Gray Court.
Officials reported that McCormick was riding a 2007 Yamaha sport bike westbound when he left the roadway, struck a utility pole, and then collided with a fence.
The coroner’s office was notified at 10:27 p.m. and pronounced McCormick dead at the scene.
Emergency responders included Abbeville County EMS, the Abbeville County Fire Department, the Abbeville County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing, authorities said.
