BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A crash on Florida’s Turnpike left a motorcyclist dead and closed all southbound lanes overnight, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

Troopers reported the incident occurred at approximately 11:13 p.m. on Friday, just south of Griffin Road.

According to FHP officials, a black 2001 Harley Davidson Road King motorcycle and a red 2012 Chevrolet Camaro were both traveling southbound when the motorcycle moved from the outside center lane into the inside center lane, entering the Camaro’s path.

The front of the Camaro collided with the rear of the motorcycle, resulting in the rider being thrown from the bike. Investigators identified the deceased rider as a 28-year-old man from Hollywood, and efforts are underway to notify his next of kin.

The driver of the Camaro, a 22-year-old man also from Hollywood, was reported uninjured.

All southbound lanes were closed starting at midnight Saturday but have since reopened.
