SMITH COUNTY — A motorcycle accident resulted in one fatality just after 5 p.m. Friday in Smith County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle operated by Mark Hollenbeck, 70, of Parker, Nebraska, was eastbound on U.S. 36 when it collided with a trailer being towed by a 2014 Chevy Silverado. The Silverado, driven by Dale Herrington, 73, of Holdrege, Nebraska, had slowed to turn north into a cemetery.
Hollenbeck was pronounced dead at the scene and was subsequently transported to Simmons Rentschler Mortuary. Authorities reported that Herrington and three passengers in the Silverado were uninjured. Hollenbeck was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the KHP stated.
