Motorcyclist killed in July 4 crash on Royal Ave in Eugene Bethel area.

EUGENE, Ore. – Multiple incidents, including a fatal motorcycle crash and an armed suspect arrest, marked the July 4 weekend in Eugene, according to the Eugene Police Department.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on July 4, a motorcyclist collided with a car at Royal Avenue and Legacy Drive. The motorcyclist sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The Eugene Police Major Collision Investigation team is currently investigating.

Just before midnight the same day, officers apprehended 28-year-old Jason Jess Garcia at City Nights, located at 77 W. Broadway, after he allegedly threatened security staff with a firearm. Garcia attempted to flee but was quickly restrained by officers. He faces multiple charges, including felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.

At 11:08 p.m., officers responded to a rollover crash at 18th Avenue and Washington Street involving a Lexus SUV and a Toyota Camry. The SUV was carrying a woman and her 8-year-old child when the Camry ran a stop sign and struck them. All three were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver of the Camry was found to be intoxicated.

Earlier that evening, at 8:41 p.m., a bicycle accident occurred at River Road and Springwood Drive, with the driver fleeing the scene. The 42-year-old woman on the bicycle was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On July 5 at 1:58 a.m., a 46-year-old man reported being attacked and robbed by several younger males; however, police were unable to locate the suspects.

Eugene Police received numerous fireworks-related complaints over the holiday weekend, with no citations issued. The increased activity was attributed to favorable weather conditions. Authorities managed all incidents professionally, ensuring public safety.
