WAREHAM, Mass. — A motorcycle crash on Cranberry Highway resulted in one fatality and several injuries on Thursday evening, authorities confirmed.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene near 2309 Cranberry Highway just before 5 p.m., where they found two motorcycles and a damaged SUV. According to the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office and Wareham Police, the vehicles were resting on their sides.
Authorities reported that 49-year-old Matthew Burns of South Attleboro lost control of his motorcycle, veered into oncoming traffic, and collided with a white Mercedes GLC300.
Burns was unresponsive at the scene and was later pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts failed. He was riding with four other motorcyclists at the time; one suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes reported observing several motorcycles before the incident. She stated she could not avoid the collision, according to law enforcement.
An investigation into the crash is currently underway. Lane closures were in effect during emergency response efforts.
