A motorcyclist was killed in a crash on westbound Highway 4 near Lone Tree Way early Wednesday morning.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received reports of the collision shortly before 1 a.m. Witnesses said the rider was down in the roadway, with a big rig and a black SUV potentially involved. Debris was scattered across the highway.
According to authorities, the motorcyclist lost control after hitting debris, leading to the crash. Both the SUV and a semi-truck struck the rider, with the SUV ending up approximately 50 feet from the motorcycle, sustaining a broken axle.
All westbound lanes were temporarily closed near the Sand Creek Road on-ramp while emergency personnel cleared the scene.
The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The CHP is currently investigating the cause of the accident.
