Motorcyclist Killed in Puna Traffic Collision, Reports Big Island Video News.

(BIVN) – A Kurtistown man died Monday following a motorcycle crash with a Tesla on 12th Avenue in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m. between Paradise Drive and Kaloli Drive. The collision involved a Suzuki enduro motorcycle traveling northbound and a southbound 2024 Tesla multi-purpose vehicle making a left turn.

According to the Hawaii Police Department, the operator of the motorcycle, 58-year-old Max Mattos, was unresponsive at the scene and was later pronounced dead at Hilo Benioff Medical Center at 5:41 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered.

The driver of the Tesla, a 47-year-old woman from Kea‘au, sustained no injuries. Authorities indicated that speed and reckless driving are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

The Area I Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the collision. The roadway was temporarily closed to facilitate emergency response and an accident investigation.
