Motorcyclist Dies in Virginia Beach Crash After Running Red Light

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision after running a red light on Virginia Beach Boulevard on Saturday afternoon, officials said.

At approximately 12:23 p.m. on July 26, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department responded to the 3700 block of Virginia Beach Blvd. for a crash involving a motorcycle and another vehicle.

First responders found two injured individuals at the scene. The motorcyclist, identified as Nicholas Rizzotti of Chesapeake, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

According to preliminary investigations, Rizzotti was traveling westbound on Virginia Beach Blvd. at a high speed and failed to stop at a red light, colliding with a vehicle turning eastbound onto the boulevard.

Authorities closed the roadway between Rosemont Road and Lynn Shores Drive for several hours before reopening it.
