Motorcyclist Seriously Injured After Being Ejected Onto Lawn in Islip Crash, Police Report.

ISLIP, NY – A motorcycle and SUV collision at the intersection of South Bay Avenue and Wave Crest Drive resulted in serious injuries on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 6:52 p.m. when a 43-year-old woman from Islip driving a Chevrolet Tahoe SUV proceeded through a stop sign on Raymond Street. Simultaneously, 20-year-old Jefferson Vanegas Rivas from Bay Shore, riding a 2006 Honda CBR motorcycle, went through a stop sign on South Bay Avenue and collided with the SUV’s front passenger side.

Emergency responders, including the Suffolk County Police Department, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Rivas was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV was uninjured.

Authorities closed down both intersections for approximately two hours to facilitate an investigation and traffic clean-up. The roadway has since reopened, and police are continuing to investigate the incident.
