Driver Arrested Following Motorcycle Crash on U.S. Highway 550
DURANGO, CO — A 34-year-old New Mexico man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly striking a motorcyclist and fleeing the scene on U.S. Highway 550, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:34 a.m. near mile marker 7, close to County Road 217. The motorcyclist, a 40-year-old man from Durango, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.
Authorities said the vehicle involved was a Dodge Ram 2500 dual-rear-wheeled truck, which struck a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the driver’s side near the bed area. The truck was located and stopped near the Grandview interchange shortly after the incident.
The State Patrol did not immediately provide specific charges against the driver. Names of both individuals are being withheld pending an ongoing investigation.
This incident marks the second such crash in two weeks involving a truck and a two-wheeled vehicle. On July 21, a pickup truck reportedly pulling a trailer hit a cyclist near Highway 550 and County Road 302, resulting in serious injuries.
