Fatal Collision on Highway 50 Near Carson City Claims One Life

CARSON CITY, NV – A fatal crash occurred around 4 p.m. Sunday on Highway 50 near Golf Club Drive, blocking westbound lanes.

According to authorities, a Honda SUV was traveling west at a high rate of speed when it failed to navigate a curve, colliding with a Volvo. The Honda subsequently overturned, ejecting two occupants. One woman was pronounced deceased en route to a local hospital, while four others—including two men, a juvenile, and a woman—were injured and transported for medical care.

Both occupants of the Volvo were uninjured. The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) reported that this incident marks the second fatal crash on Highway 50 in 2025, bringing the total in the northwestern division to 16 fatal incidents resulting in 17 deaths this year.

Sgt. Chris Brown of the NHP stated that the No. 2 westbound travel lane is closed, with intermittent full closures expected over the next two hours. NHP is investigating the circumstances of the crash as part of an ongoing effort to combat impaired driving in the region.

Emergency responders, including CareFlight helicopters, arrived at the scene shortly after the initial call was received at 4:03 p.m. Authorities urge motorists to avoid the area and remain cautious of first responders on-site.
