New Bedford Man Sentenced in Fatal Motorcycle Crash
NEW BEDFORD, MA — William Botelho Jr. received a two-year suspended sentence on June 3 for a motor vehicle homicide charge resulting from a 2021 motorcycle crash that killed Krystal Geraldo, 29, of North Scituate, Rhode Island.
According to Plymouth County prosecutors, Botelho, who was operating his motorcycle northbound near 2344 Acushnet Ave. around 7 p.m. on June 6, 2021, lost control and struck a guardrail. Authorities indicated he was both speeding and under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
Geraldo, a passenger on the motorcycle, succumbed to her injuries two days later.
During the sentencing hearing, Geraldo’s mother, Mylene, shared her final moments with her daughter, recalling a day of crafting and reminiscing before tragedy struck.
A GoFundMe campaign for Geraldo’s family raised nearly $8,000, noting her employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
As of now, the investigation into the crash is concluded, and no further information has been reported by authorities.
