New Bern Motorcyclist Dies in Craven County Crash, Driver Facing Charges.

A New Bern motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night in a crash at Airport Road and Old Cherry Point Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred around 8:53 p.m. on July 29. Authorities reported that 23-year-old Mariana Graybeal Libengood was driving west on Old Cherry Point Road in a Kia sedan while 58-year-old Michael Shawn Hoveland was traveling east on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

According to the State Highway Patrol, Libengood attempted a left turn onto Airport Road and failed to yield, resulting in a collision with Hoveland’s motorcycle. Hoveland was ejected and died at the scene.

Libengood has been charged with failure to yield and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The charges are allegations, and Libengood is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
