News 12 New Jersey Reports Unfolding Stories in the Garden State.

A Morris County man died and his front-seat passenger was hospitalized following a four-vehicle pileup on the New Jersey Turnpike extension in Hudson County late Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred around 11:07 a.m. in the eastbound lanes at milepost 2.8 in Bayonne. According to the New Jersey State Police, a Freightliner tractor-trailer struck the rear of an Acura SUV, initiating a chain reaction among the vehicles ahead.

The Acura, driven by 64-year-old Timothy S. Roufaeal of Boonton, collided with a Jeep SUV after being hit by the tractor-trailer. The Acura then veered into a concrete barrier, which propelled the Jeep into the rear of a Toyota pickup truck.

State troopers confirmed that Roufaeal sustained fatal injuries in the crash. An unidentified passenger in his Acura suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. No injuries were reported from the occupants of the tractor-trailer, Jeep, or Toyota.

The eastbound extension experienced significant delays as emergency crews worked to clear the scene. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, according to authorities.
