Carson City Man Dies in US-50 Motorcycle Crash

A Carson City man was killed and a passenger seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on US-50 in Lander County on June 14, 2026.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), the incident occurred at approximately 8:32 a.m. near mile marker 27, about 3 miles east of Austin. A black Harley tricycle was traveling westbound when it failed to navigate a right turn, crossed the centerline, and left the roadway, launching off a dirt embankment and overturning in a ravine.

Officials identified the deceased driver as 68-year-old James Chapman of Carson City. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The adult female passenger was transported to a regional hospital, where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit due to serious injuries.

The Nevada Highway Patrol’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team (MIRT) is investigating the crash, which remains open. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact the NHP Elko Office at (775) 753-1111 or email ncemirt@dps.state.nv.us.

Year-to-date, the Nevada Highway Patrol has reported 17 fatal crashes resulting in 18 fatalities across the state.
