SHERIDAN COUNTY — One person died in a collision involving a semi and motorcycle on U.S. 24 just after 10 a.m. Friday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2014 Kenworth semi, driven by Luke D. Smith, 52, of McDonald, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 24, approximately four miles west of Kansas 23 highway. Smith made a left turn into a parking lot, turning in front of a westbound 2026 Kawasaki Sport motorcycle driven by Micael Mast Roe, 70, of Hoxie. The motorcycle collided with the passenger side of the semi.
Roe was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to Mickey Leopold Funeral Home. Smith reported no injuries and was found to be wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The crash resulted in temporary lane closures on U.S. 24 in both directions, from County Road 20W to County Road 50W, about five miles west of Hoxie.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the incident.
