Teen E-Bike Rider Killed in Collision with SUV in Lower Manhattan
A 17-year-old e-bike rider was killed in a collision with an SUV near Chambers Street and Centre Street Wednesday morning.
Gabriel Nacato, from Brooklyn, was riding northbound on Centre Street when he veered out of the bike lane into the vehicle lane at approximately 8:55 a.m., authorities said. He struck a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 40-year-old woman who remained at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services pronounced Nacato dead at the scene. The driver was not facing charges, according to police.
Nacato was found with a school ID, and authorities reported no alcohol or drugs were present in his system.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the incident. The crash occurred near the Brooklyn Bridge exit, close to City Hall and several courthouses. Lane closures were in effect during the emergency response and investigation.
