Oklahoma City Sports Director Bob Barry, Jr. Dies in Motorcycle Crash
Oklahoma City sports director Bob Barry, Jr., 58, died Saturday in a motorcycle accident on May Avenue.
According to police, a car traveling southbound made an illegal U-turn, resulting in a collision with Barry’s motorcycle. The incident is under investigation.
Gustavo Castillo Gutierrez, 26, is currently held in Oklahoma County Jail on $18,500 bond for manslaughter and drug possession charges related to the crash.
A public memorial service for Barry will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Crossings Community Church in northwest Oklahoma City.
KFOR News Director Carlton Houston expressed condolences, stating, “Bob loved his family, and he loved Oklahoma.” Oklahoma City Thunder Chairman Clay Bennett remarked that the state lost “one of its finest” in sports broadcasting.
Barry had a prominent career, starting in the 1970s as a high school student and later joining KFOR in 1982. He hosted a popular morning show on WWLS, “The Sports Animal,” and was recognized as “Oklahoma Sportscaster of the Year” six times since 2003.
Authorities have confirmed there are no additional details regarding injuries or road closures at this time.
