A fatal crash on Highway 50 near MO-BB Thursday afternoon resulted in one death and one serious injury, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).
At approximately 2:07 p.m., a 2018 Nissan Altima, driven by a 55-year-old man from Union, was traveling westbound when he attempted to pass multiple vehicles in the eastbound lane. The maneuver led to a head-on collision with a 2023 Nissan Maxima, operated by a 48-year-old woman, also from Union.
Authorities reported the driver of the Altima was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:18 p.m. by Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The female driver of the Maxima sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis.
MSHP confirmed that the woman was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident, while the man was not. The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is ongoing, and both westbound lanes of Highway 50 were temporarily closed for cleanup and investigation.
