MAN KILLED, ANOTHER INJURED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH IN WORTH COUNTY
A 44-year-old man was killed, and another was injured Saturday in a crash involving four motorcycles in Worth County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at 2:40 p.m. on August 29 at the intersection of Highway 46 and Route F, approximately three miles east of Sheridan. All motorcycles were traveling east on Highway 46 when a 65-year-old man from Bedford, Iowa, slowed to make a left turn onto Route F.
A 44-year-old man from Winterset, Iowa, failed to notice the slowing motorcycle and attempted to evade a collision by swerving left, but struck the vehicle. As a result, his motorcycle overturned, ejecting him onto the roadway. A third rider, a 47-year-old man also from Bedford, struck the overturned motorcycle and was ejected.
A fourth motorcycle, driven by a 44-year-old man from Patterson, Iowa, attempted to avoid the crash but ended up driving over the Winterset man, who was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m. by Dr. Crystal Macaluso.
The Bedford man was transported to Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville with moderate injuries.
None of the involved riders were reported to be wearing helmets. The Missouri State Highway Patrol found significant damage on the Winterset and Bedford motorcycles, which were later towed by private vehicles.
Assisting agencies at the scene included the Worth County Sheriff’s Department, Worth County Emergency Medical Services, and local fire departments. The investigation is ongoing.
