One Dead, One Injured in Motorcycle Crash in Worth County
Four motorcycles were involved in a collision on Highway 46 near Route F in Worth County, resulting in one fatality and one injury Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 2:40 p.m. on August 29, a 65-year-old man from Bedford, Iowa, slowed his 2017 Harley-Davidson for a left turn when he was struck by another motorcycle, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A 44-year-old Winterset, Iowa, man on a 2025 Harley-Davidson failed to notice the slowing vehicle, swerving left in an attempt to avoid a collision but ultimately hitting the 2017 motorcycle.
After the impact, the Winterset man’s motorcycle overturned, ejecting him. Following this, a 47-year-old Bedford man, also on a Harley-Davidson, collided with the overturned bike, resulting in his motorcycle flipping over as well. A fourth motorcycle, driven by a 44-year-old man from Patterson, Iowa, ran over the Winterset man as he attempted to navigate around the scene.
Emergency responders pronounced the Winterset man dead at 2:59 p.m. The 47-year-old Bedford man sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Mosaic Medical Center – Maryville.
All involved motorcyclists were reportedly not wearing safety equipment during the incident. The Winterset man’s motorcycle was totaled, while the 2021 Harley-Davidson sustained significant damage.
Investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Worth County Sheriff’s Department, and local fire departments.
