One person dies in motorcycle crash while fleeing law enforcement, reports SCHP.

A motorcyclist died early Saturday after a crash while fleeing from a traffic stop attempted by a Charleston County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

According to authorities, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. when a deputy attempted to stop a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle near Highway 78 and Midview Drive for not displaying a license tag. The motorcyclist fled, leading to a pursuit.

The motorcyclist subsequently crashed at the intersection of Dunmeyer Hill Road and Maria Eden Road in Summerville, authorities said.

The deputy initiated life-saving measures on the scene before Charleston County Emergency Medical Services arrived. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Services Unit and Traffic Unit, along with the Charleston County Coroner’s Office, also responded. The coroner’s office will release the identity of the victim once family members have been notified.
