One Dead, Several Injured in Wapiti Crash on U.S. Highway 14/16/20
WAPITI, Wyo. — A collision involving multiple vehicles resulted in one fatality and several injuries on U.S. Highway 14/16/20 near mile marker 32.3 on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 8:38 a.m., according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Authorities reported that a Ford pickup truck traveling eastbound drifted into oncoming traffic, striking two westbound motorcycles. The impact caused two additional motorcycles behind them to crash. A Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) vehicle attempted to evade the truck but was also hit.
One person was transported by helicopter to a medical facility in Billings, Montana. Another individual initially taken to a Cody hospital was later airlifted to the same facility. Two other motorcyclists suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were treated and released at the Cody hospital. The driver of the WYDOT vehicle reported no injuries.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol confirmed one fatality resulting from the incident and stated that the investigation is ongoing. The highway was closed for several hours, reopening at approximately 2:50 p.m.
