LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (KCTV) – A Kansas City woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash on Sunday afternoon near Piper.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, emergency crews were dispatched at about 2:45 p.m. to the intersection of K-5 and 119th St. for a reported two-vehicle collision.
Investigators found that a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, driven by 66-year-old Reiko L. Schroff of Kearney, was turning onto northbound K-5 from 119th St.
A 1998 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by 65-year-old Richard A. Coons of Platte City, was traveling north when Schroff’s pickup turned in front of him. The motorcycle collided with the truck’s bed.
First responders transported Coons’ passenger, 68-year-old Kimberly K. Heath of Kansas City, to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Coons sustained minor injuries but refused hospital transport.
Authorities reported that Schroff and her passenger, 66-year-old Tammy Long of Kearney, were unharmed in the incident.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the crash, and no further details about lane closures or tows were provided.
