Motorcycle Crash in Pownal Leaves 23-Year-Old Critically Injured
POWNAL, Maine — A 23-year-old man from Poland was critically injured in a motorcycle crash on Elmwood Road Thursday evening.
The incident occurred just before 7:45 p.m. near 796 Elmwood Road, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Joseph Vallee was riding his 2008 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle northbound when he attempted to pass another vehicle on a blind corner, lost control, and collided with a tree.
Vallee was transported to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries. Authorities confirmed he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Initial investigations suggest that speed and reckless driving contributed to the accident, which remains under investigation, the sheriff’s office stated.
Emergency responders from the Freeport and Pownal fire departments, along with the Gorham Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit, assisted at the scene. Elmwood Road was closed for approximately three hours while emergency responders operated.
