WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 71-year-old motorcyclist died following a crash on the US-311 ramp to I-40 westbound Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:20 a.m., according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Authorities said the rider, identified as Thomas William Kelly, collided with a guardrail. Responders found him with life-threatening injuries and transported him to a local hospital.
Kelly succumbed to his injuries on Monday, June 22, 2026, police confirmed. Preliminary investigations indicate he was traveling northbound on US-311 when the motorcycle veered off the roadway and struck the guardrail.
The Winston-Salem Police Department Traffic Enforcement Unit is leading the ongoing investigation. Officials have notified next of kin.
