Repeat DUI Offender Sentenced for Fatal Crash that Killed Motorcyclist at Over 100 MPH.

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. (KPHO/Gray News) — Joel Stephan Goble, 40, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for a fatal crash on U.S. 60 on Oct. 5, 2024.

Goble was convicted of second-degree murder after colliding with motorcyclist Darrel Evans while driving at over 100 mph with a blood alcohol content of .132. The impact pinned Evans and his motorcycle against Goble’s truck.

Witnesses said Goble dragged Evans’ body for a quarter mile, resulting in the motorcycle catching fire. Authorities reported the collision occurred east of Idaho Road.

After leaving the scene, Goble stopped at a Chevron station, where he was recorded attempting to remove Evans and the motorcycle from his truck. An Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper apprehended him nearby.

Goble had a history of DUI offenses, with warrants for his arrest prior to this incident. Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller condemned Goble’s actions, stating this case emphasizes the consequences of repeat offenders.

Miller added that while the verdict cannot undo the tragedy, it aims to provide accountability for the victim’s family.
