CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — A retired Pennsylvania state trooper faces homicide by vehicle charges after a fatal crash on Route 879 in Pike Township on Thursday night.
Authorities identified the suspect as 55-year-old Thomas Reed, who allegedly collided with a minivan and motorcycle under the influence of alcohol around 10 p.m., resulting in two fatalities.
The victims have been named as Judith Jordan, the minivan driver, and Frederick Cline, the motorcycle operator. Several serious injuries were reported, with one male passenger from the minivan flown to Penn Highlands DuBois.
Emergency responders closed Route 879 for several hours as they managed the scene. According to police, Reed initially denied consuming alcohol but later admitted to drinking prior to the crash. Empty alcohol containers were found in his vehicle.
He is now facing nearly two dozen charges, including multiple counts of homicide by vehicle while DUI. Reed is being held at the Clearfield County Jail, with bail denied due to the nature of the charges.

A multi-vehicle collision occurred on Route 879 in Clearfield County on Thursday night, leading to significant lane closures and a medical response involving helicopters.
According to 511PA, the crash was reported around 10:15 p.m. near the intersection with Carbon Mine Road. PennDOT announced that westbound lanes would remain closed, with an estimated reopening around 2 a.m.
Rescue Hose & Ladder Fire Company confirmed the dispatch of medical helicopters and advised the public to avoid the area.
