ROCKLAND — Public safety crews responded to 10 motor vehicle crashes on Saturday during the Maine Lobster Festival Parade.
Four crashes led to injuries, including one at approximately 6:30 p.m. involving a motorcycle and a car on Park Street, which closed the road during the investigation.
The 20-year-old male motorcyclist, not wearing a helmet, was transported to Maine Health Pen Bay Hospital in Rockport with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.
According to Rockland Police Chief Tim Carroll, the motorcyclist collided with the rear of a turning vehicle that had its left blinker on.
In accordance with protocol for serious injury incidents, the Knox County District Attorney’s Office was notified. A crash reconstructionist from the Maine State Police is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
In total, five individuals were taken to the hospital via ambulance. Three additional crashes resulted in significant vehicle damage, while three more were classified as minor damage incidents.
