Samuel Clutter Dies in Head-On Collision in Clatsop County.

Clatsop County, OR – A head-on crash on Highway 30 claimed the life of a 55-year-old man and injured another on Saturday night, August 1, 2026.

The collision occurred around 8:59 p.m. near milepost 90, close to Timmerman Road. According to the OREGON STATE POLICE, Samuel Stephen Clutter, of Portland, was riding a black Triumph Daytona eastbound when he attempted to pass in a no-passing zone. Clutter crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a yellow Ford Transit van driven by 42-year-old Matthew James Weatherman of Warrenton.

Clutter was pronounced dead at the scene. Weatherman suffered minor injuries. Authorities closed Highway 30 for approximately five hours while conducting the investigation.

The investigation involved the OREGON STATE POLICE, Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office, Knappa Fire District, Medix Ambulance Service, Clatsop County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
