Two Fatal Accidents Reported in Bear Lake County, Idaho
Bears Lake County, ID – Idaho State Police reported two fatal vehicle accidents within 24 hours this week, involving ATV and motorcycle riders.
The first accident occurred on August 27 at approximately 11:12 a.m., along North Road in Ovid. A 71-year-old male from Ovid was riding a 2014 Polaris Sportsman ATV when he swerved to avoid a 2021 GMC Savana van driven by a 22-year-old male from Nibley, Utah. The ATV lost control, veered off the road, and struck a concrete barrier. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was airlifted but later died in the hospital.
The second incident took place on August 28 at 11:22 a.m. on Minnetonka Cave Road near St. Charles. A 22-year-old male from North Ogden, Utah, was riding a 2026 Kawasaki KLX110 motorcycle eastbound when he collided head-on with a westbound 2005 Jeep Liberty, driven by a 66-year-old female from Montpelier, Idaho. The motorcycle rider, also unhelmeted, succumbed to his injuries; however, the Jeep driver did not require medical transport.
Authorities confirmed that both accidents are under investigation. No other injuries were reported, and both roadways were reopened following the incidents.
This marks the second fatal ATV and motorcycle incident in Bear Lake County this year.
