Crash on Athens Boonesboro Road Injures Five, Closes Lanes in Lexington
A collision involving an SUV and a motorcycle on Athens Boonesboro Road in Lexington resulted in two serious injuries and closed inbound lanes on Friday afternoon.
The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. at the entrance to Jacobson Park, according to the Lexington Police Department. Five individuals were transported to a local hospital. One motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries, while another passenger in the SUV had serious injuries and required extrication, as confirmed by Battalion Chief Derek Roberts of the Lexington Fire Department. Three additional individuals sustained minor injuries.
Inbound traffic on Athens Boonesboro was halted at Hays Boulevard. The Lexington Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident. Outbound lanes remained open.
As of 7:30 p.m., Lexinton police Lt. Ilya Sharapov indicated that inbound Richmond Road lanes would likely remain closed for several hours.
