STURGIS, S.D. (KOTA) – A fatal motorcycle accident occurred Thursday afternoon near Sturgis, resulting in one death and another serious injury.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the crash involved two motorcycles and happened at approximately 1:06 p.m. on U.S. Highway 14A, near mile marker 50.
Preliminary reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicate that 46-year-old Angelee Kay Glammeier of Sioux Falls was traveling eastbound on a 2013 Suzuki Gladius 650 when she was struck head-on by 77-year-old Darry Warnock Stuart of Wrentham, Massachusetts. Stuart was westbound on a 2013 Victory Jackpot and allegedly failed to navigate a curve, crossing into Glammeier’s lane.
Glammeier, who was wearing a helmet, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Stuart, also wearing a helmet, was transported to a Sturgis hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the accident, the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 14A were closed for about one hour. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
