South Dakota Highway Patrol Launches Investigation into Two Fatal Crashes From Saturday.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Two fatal crashes occurred in South Dakota on Saturday, prompting investigations by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.

The first incident took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. in Sanborn County, at the intersection of 399th Avenue and 237th Street, about seven miles southwest of Woonsocket. A Ford F-350 was parked on railroad tracks and was struck by a BNSF train.

The driver, a 30-year-old man from Texas, died at the scene. A 29-year-old passenger, also from Texas, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Another crash happened around 11:15 p.m. in Lincoln County, near the intersection of 275th Street and Highway 17, roughly four miles north of Lennox. A Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on 275th Street crossed the center line and struck a field approach.

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Sioux Falls, sustained life-threatening injuries. A 51-year-old passenger from Sioux Falls was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that details are still preliminary as investigations continue.
