Teton Pass Collision Claims Two Lives, Closes Highway for 12 Hours

WILSON, WY—A fatal crash involving a dump truck, motorcycle, and multiple vehicles resulted in two fatalities and closed Wyoming Highway 22 for approximately 12 hours on Tuesday.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol reported the incident occurred at milepost 7 near the WYDOT sand shed around 2:41 p.m. Witnesses indicated that the dump truck, which was hauling asphalt eastbound, experienced brake failure before the collision.

Deceased are David Page, 57, of Mammoth Lakes, California, and Nicholas Besobrasow, 66, of Tetonia, Idaho. Page was the director of the Winter Wildlands Alliance, while Besobrasow founded Alupka Asset Management. Four others sustained injuries, including the 22-year-old dump truck driver and 24-year-old motorcyclist Caleb Batista, both of whom have since been discharged from St. John’s Health.

Two additional victims, Belinda Gunn and Mike Fischer, both residents of Wilson, are reported in fair condition. They were occupants of a Chevy pickup that was struck from behind by the dump truck before colliding head-on with another vehicle.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol has initiated an investigation into the accident, with potential citations pending. All lanes were closed until late Tuesday evening, diverting traffic through Alpine amid ongoing construction.
