State Trooper Commemorated at Wake After Tragic Wrong-Way Collision.

LYNNFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor was killed in a crash involving a wrong-way driver on Route 1 early Wednesday morning.

According to State Police, Trainor was driving home at 2:41 a.m. when a call was made regarding a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lane. Troopers located the wrong-way vehicle at 2:43 a.m. and Trainor’s cruiser was struck shortly thereafter.

Both Trainor and the other driver, identified as 30-year-old Hernan Marrero of Roslindale, succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Authorities reported that troopers stood vigil during a wake for Trainor, providing a continuous presence from the time of his death until his funeral scheduled for Tuesday.

A ceremonial walk-by past Trainor’s casket will feature command staff and fellow officers to demonstrate solidarity with his family.

The funeral will include military honors, a three-volley salute, a flag presentation to Trainor’s family, and the official retiring of his badge.

In recognition of National Police Week, law enforcement agencies across Massachusetts are honoring fallen officers.
