Sioux Falls Woman Killed in Three-Wheeled Motorcycle Crash Near Rochford
ROCHFORD, S.D. – A 67-year-old woman from Sioux Falls died in a single-vehicle accident involving a three-wheeled motorcycle on August 1.
Dawn Hillman was a passenger on a 2025 Can-Am Spyder RT, operated by her husband, 72-year-old Randall Lee Hillman. The incident happened shortly after 11 a.m. on South Rochford Road, approximately five miles west of Rochford, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Authorities reported the couple was negotiating a curve when the driver failed to maintain control, causing the vehicle to roll off the roadway. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Randall Hillman was transported to a hospital in Rapid City with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The DPS confirmed an investigation is ongoing.
The Sturgis motorcycle rally has seen an increase in three-wheeled motorcycle usage, prompting concerns over their handling. Experts note that navigating sharp turns can be challenging, and riders may face increased risks if they lack the necessary strength for steering.
