LAMAR COUNTY, AL. (Local News Wire) – A head-on collision on State Highway 18 near Vernon resulted in the death of a Sulligent man on June 24.
The crash occurred around 2:41 p.m. when a Mack tractor-trailer driven by 60-year-old Therond Adams, Jr. collided with a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old from Millport, approximately four miles west of Vernon.
Authorities reported that Adams was ejected from his vehicle and suffered critical injuries. He was initially transported to Baptist Golden Triangle before being transferred to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet, along with a 16-year-old passenger, sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital for medical care.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. Roadway conditions and any potential contributing factors remain under review.
