A 17-year-old Wallingford boy was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 91 in North Haven on Sunday night.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on I-91 North, near Exit 13, where traffic was being diverted due to an earlier motorcycle crash, according to the CONNECTICUT STATE POLICE. Authorities reported that the teenager, riding a 2018 KTM 390, ignored the closure signs and proceeded into the area of the previous incident.
As the teen approached the scene, he collided with an unoccupied state Department of Transportation vehicle parked in the center lane. The impact caused him to be thrown from the motorcycle, sliding across the pavement before striking a metal beam guardrail post, according to state police. He was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital with serious injuries; his current condition is unclear.
The crash is under investigation by authorities. This incident followed another motorcycle crash on the same highway, involving a 36-year-old Southington man who sideswiped two vehicles and sustained life-threatening injuries. He was also taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, and that crash is under investigation as well.
