19-Year-Old Dies Following Motorcycle Crash on US Highway 70 SE in Hickory
HICKORY, N.C. — A 19-year-old motorcyclist died Saturday following a crash on US Highway 70 SE in Hickory on Friday evening.
The motorcyclist, identified as Alex Austin, was riding eastbound near 21st Street Lane SE at approximately 8:12 p.m. when he collided with the rear of a 2021 Hyundai Kona traveling in the same direction, according to the Hickory Police Department.
Austin was initially taken to Catawba Valley Medical Center and was later airlifted to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
Authorities reported no charges have been filed as of Monday. The Hickory Police Department is actively investigating the incident.
