RIVERVIEW, Mich. — An 18-year-old motorcyclist died following a high-speed police pursuit that ended in a crash on Payne Street in Riverview.
According to authorities, the pursuit began Thursday night after Ecorse police reported a motorcycle traveling over 100 mph on Biddle Avenue. Wyandotte police attempted to stop the rider, who fled the scene without a license plate.
The motorcyclist, identified as Ibrahim Fawaz, reportedly reached high speeds and entered oncoming traffic during the pursuit. The chase concluded when he turned onto Payne Street, a dead-end road, where he lost control and crashed.
Emergency responders arrived, but Fawaz was found unresponsive at the scene and later died at a hospital from his injuries.
Two Wyandotte police officers involved in the pursuit have been placed on paid administrative leave while the Michigan State Police conducts an investigation into the incident. Witnesses reported seeing Fawaz slow down near train tracks before the crash.
Police Chief Archie Hamilton emphasized the dangers of high-speed pursuits and expressed support for the officers involved, stating that the case is still under investigation.
Lane closures were reported in the area as the investigation continued, and additional details may emerge as authorities gather further evidence.
