Three Dead in Collision Between Left-Turning Vehicle and Southbound Motorcycle.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY — A predawn collision on Route 301 left three people dead and initiated an investigation by Maryland State Police on July 12.

Troopers were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. to the intersection with Governors Park Lane, where a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle collided. According to preliminary findings, a black Tesla Model 3 failed to yield while turning left from northbound Route 301, resulting in the Harley-Davidson motorcycle striking the Tesla.

A third vehicle subsequently hit the motorcycle’s passenger and fled the scene. No description of this vehicle has been released.

The riders of the Harley-Davidson, Matthew Eric Vowell, 48, and Krystal Ann Vowell, 47, both from Friendship, were pronounced dead at the scene. A rear passenger in the Tesla, Adriana Lanae Maxwell, 22, of Glen Burnie, also died on site. The driver of the Tesla sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Authorities believe the Tesla was operating as a rideshare vehicle. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with traffic management as lane closures remained in effect for over four hours.

The investigation is being led by the Maryland State Police Crash Team and will be referred to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office for possible charges.

Sgt. Gore is urging witnesses with information about the fleeing vehicle to call 410-819-4753. This incident highlights the dangers present at busy intersections along Route 301, a key route connecting Southern Maryland to the greater Washington area.
