LOWER MERION TWP., Pa. — Three people were killed early Saturday in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way pickup truck on Interstate 76, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Troopers were dispatched at 4:50 a.m. to westbound I-76 near mile marker 330, where a white Ford pickup was reported traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Authorities said the truck was going at a high rate of speed and continued on the wrong side of the highway.
Attempts by troopers to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, and the pickup eventually struck two other vehicles head-on, resulting in three fatalities. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed as authorities are notifying next of kin.
Westbound I-76 was closed before the Conshohocken curve, with traffic diverted at Exit 338, Belmont Avenue. The Pennsylvania State Police Skippack Barracks Criminal Investigation Unit is handling the investigation.
