Tragic Highway Accident in St. Paul Park Claims Life of 80-Year-Old Woman.

St. Paul Park, MN – A 80-year-old South St. Paul woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 61 around noon Friday, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident occurred near 70th Ave. when a Mitsubishi car, pulled onto the shoulder, attempted to re-enter the northbound lanes and collided with a northbound BMW.

Sandra Lee Brunell was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the BMW, 71-year-old Mark Steven Martell, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and alcohol is not suspected as a factor, authorities said. The crash remains under investigation, and no lane closures were reported.
